ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
Sally Edwards
Psychotherapist | EMDR Therapist | Trauma Therapist

Welcome
I'm a fully qualified psychotherapist and EMDR therapist offering online therapy across the UK, as well as a limited number of in-person sessions at my private practice in Kent, close to Bromley, Orpington and South East London.
My specialism is trauma and understanding the lasting psychological and emotional impact of traumatic experiences. I work with adults who have experienced childhood trauma, childhood neglect, sexual abuse, narcissistic abuse, domestic abuse, betrayal and relationship trauma, as well as trauma following serious accidents, illness, loss and difficult or overwhelming life experiences.
Trauma doesn't always come from one identifiable event. Complex trauma can develop through repeated or prolonged experiences, particularly during childhood or within difficult relationships. Sometimes people don't recognise what they've experienced as trauma at all. They simply know that they feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, constantly on alert, emotionally exhausted or unable to understand why certain patterns keep repeating in their lives.
I work in a trauma-informed way, which means that rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?", I'm more interested in asking, "What's happened to you?" Our thoughts, emotions, behaviours and ways of relating to others often make much more sense when we understand the experiences that have shaped them.
Understanding the Effects of Trauma
The effects of unresolved trauma can continue long after the original experiences have passed. You may know rationally that you're safe now, while your body and nervous system continue to respond as though something is wrong.
This can show up as anxiety, panic, depression, burnout, low self-esteem, hypervigilance, emotional dysregulation, perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulty trusting others, relationship problems, feeling disconnected or finding it difficult to relax and switch off.
Outwardly, you may seem capable and composed while inwardly feeling stuck, anxious or depleted. You may have spent years holding everything together, carrying a great deal and coping quietly, only to reach a point where those ways of coping no longer feel sustainable.
Understanding the connection between what you're experiencing now and what has happened to you can bring greater clarity and self-compassion — and can be an important part of healing from trauma.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is particularly associated with the treatment of trauma and PTSD, but it can also be helpful in working with distressing memories, negative beliefs, anxiety, low self-esteem and patterns that can be difficult to shift through talking alone.
Therapy isn't simply about looking back. Understanding and processing what has happened can help you change the ways those experiences continue to affect how you feel, respond and relate to yourself and other people today.
We work gently and intentionally, at a pace that feels safe and manageable, with the aim of helping you move forward with greater clarity, resilience and a stronger sense of yourself.
Please note that I work only with adults (18+) and offer individual therapy sessions. I do not offer couples or group therapy.
I'm an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a Member of the EMDR UK Association.
